Provenance

The Meteoritical Bulletin records that NWA 17918 was purchased from a meteorite dealer, that the finder is anonymous, and that the remaining mass is with Brian McDonald. The working name recorded in the Bulletin is BMD 019.

This stone is the source of the classification section. Brian McDonald cut the section from this specimen and submitted it for classification, and the analysis published in the NWA 17918 entry was performed on material taken from this stone. The flat cut face on the specimen is where that section was removed. The Bulletin records a type specimen of 20.30 g at MUNA and two thin sections at ADARA but does not identify which of the six stones supplied them, so the connection between this specimen and the type material is recorded here on the authority of Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and not on that of the Bulletin.

On verification. The serial number on the accompanying certificate card is an index to this record. The photographs above and the stated weight are what identify this specimen. Meteorite surfaces, clast patterns and cut faces are individual to each stone, so a specimen can be compared directly against these images and weighed against the figure recorded here to two decimal places.
