Provenance

The Meteoritical Bulletin records that this meteorite was reportedly found by falconers in June 2024 near Lake Mukhayli in northeastern Libya, and was bought later by Mr. Mohamed Lamin Muftah, who is recorded as holding the main mass. The meteorite was classified and submitted by K. Metzler at the Institut fuer Planetologie, Muenster. This specimen was acquired by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and is not the main mass. The stone was cut once through its centre by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., producing two halves whose cut faces mate and whose exterior surface remains continuous when the halves are closed. Both faces were then mirror polished. The two halves are recorded as TC-00037 and TC-00038 and were offered for sale together.

On the pair. This specimen is one of two halves cut from a single stone. The companion half is recorded under TC-00038 at 48.15 g. Combined weight of the two halves is 107.30 g. The cut faces of the two halves mirror each other and the exterior surface is continuous when they are closed, so either half can be checked against the other as well as against the photographs below.
On verification. The serial number on the accompanying certificate card is an index to this record. The photographs above and the stated weight are what identify this specimen. Meteorite surfaces, clast patterns and cut faces are individual to each stone, so a specimen can be compared directly against these images and weighed against the figure recorded here to two decimal places.
