Authenticity & Certificates

Buyer Confidence

Meteorites are frequently misunderstood, misidentified, misrepresented, and sometimes faked outright. Authenticity is not treated as an afterthought here. Every specimen is handled with clear labeling, honest representation, and documentation appropriate to the material.

IMCA Membership

What Every Purchase Includes

Every meteorite purchased from Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. comes with the following as standard.

Standard with every specimen
A physical Certificate of Authenticity from Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., identifying the specimen by name, classification, and weight.
Sourcing from established, reputable dealers, trusted collectors, classification sources, or documented acquisition channels.
Official name, classification, type, and find region labeled accurately when known.
Clear labeling as unclassified when no official classification has been completed. Unclassified material is still guaranteed to be authentic meteorite material.
Where available, reference to the Meteoritical Bulletin entry, published classification data, known pairings, and relevant provenance information.

The Certificate of Authenticity

Each certificate identifies the specimen and records the information known at the time of sale. For officially classified meteorites, names and classifications are based on published sources including the Meteoritical Bulletin or other recognized classification records. The certificate travels with the specimen as a permanent part of its provenance record.

Supporting Documentation

Where available, listings reference additional documentation beyond the certificate itself.

Documentation types
Meteoritical Bulletin
The official global registry of classified meteorites, maintained by the Meteoritical Society. Every classified specimen sold here has a direct link to its Bulletin entry in the product listing. The database is publicly accessible and independently verifiable.
Classification data
Published laboratory analysis including petrographic descriptions, geochemical data, and classifier details as recorded in the Meteoritical Bulletin entry.
Pairing information
Where a specimen is known to be paired with other classified fragments, that information is disclosed. Pairing affects rarity assessment and total known weight calculations.
Provenance notes
Known acquisition history, including source region, dealer or collector origin, and chain of custody where documented.

Classified vs Unclassified Material

A classified meteorite has been formally analyzed in a laboratory and accepted into the Meteoritical Bulletin database. Its type, chemistry, and parent body group are scientifically established. All classified specimens sold here are listed with their Bulletin name and a link to the official entry.

An unclassified meteorite has not completed the formal classification pipeline. This does not mean the material is in doubt. Many unclassified NWA chondrites are genuine meteorites recovered from the same Saharan recovery regions as their classified counterparts. The difference is that scientific identity has not been formally established through laboratory analysis.

Transparency on unclassified material

When a specimen is unclassified, the listing says so clearly. We do not apply informal or speculative classifications to unclassified material, and we do not represent it as classified. What we can confirm is that it is authentic meteorite material sourced through reputable channels.

If you ever have a question about a specimen's origin, classification, pairing, or documentation, reach out. I would rather over-explain the details than leave a buyer guessing.
