Provenance

Murchison is an observed fall. A fireball was seen near Murchison, Victoria, Australia on 28 September 1969 between 10:45 and 11:00 local time, breaking into three pieces before disappearing, followed by a smoke cloud and a tremor heard some thirty seconds later. Material fell as a shower across an area of more than five square miles, and the largest recovered mass came through a roof and landed in hay. Murchison is among the most studied meteorites in science, valued for its organic content. This 2.18 gram polished slice was acquired by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and offered as a classified specimen.
