Provenance

Northwest Africa 18211 was purchased in 2025 from a meteorite dealer in Morocco as a single rock carrying a thick caliche layer. The caliche was removed in the laboratory by J. Garcia at ADARA during preparation, revealing a varnished, non-crusted grey rock beneath. Material was lost in that preparation and in the removal of the type specimen, so the mass held today is 2524 grams against the 2576 grams recorded in the Bulletin. The meteorite was classified by J. Garcia at ADARA under the work name BMD 024 and approved on 21 December 2025 for the Meteoritical Bulletin, MB 114. The Meteoritical Bulletin records the main mass as held by Brian McDonald of Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., IMCA Member #3323, who submitted the material for classification. The Bulletin further notes that this meteorite is likely paired with Northwest Africa 17706 and comes from the same batch collected by the finder. This 2524 gram main mass is offered as a classified specimen.
