Provenance
Northwest Africa 17472 was purchased in 2024 by Mark Lyon and Craig Zlimen from Choaib Bdirina. Two stones were found together, both carrying weathered fusion crust, with freshly broken surfaces revealing gray pyroxene crystals and shiny maskelynite. The meteorite was classified by C. Agee at the University of New Mexico under the field name CB-5 and published in the Meteoritical Bulletin, MB 114, as an evolved basaltic shergottite. The Meteoritical Bulletin records the main mass as held by Mark Lyon. This 65.00 gram full slice was acquired by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and offered as a classified specimen.
