Provenance

Amgala 001 was found in December 2022, when multiple stones were recovered together near Meharrize in Saguia el Hamra, Western Sahara. The material was divided among several buyers: Said Muftah Bachir and Ziyao Wang purchased 12 kg together from the finders, including the largest individual stone of 5200 g; Mark Lyon acquired 19,165 g from two dealers; and Aziz Habibi obtained 3,500 g from another dealer. The meteorite was classified by A. Irving at the University of Washington and P. Carpenter at Washington University in St. Louis under the work name SMB-20, and published in the Meteoritical Bulletin, MB 112, as an olivine-phyric shergottite. This 43.00 gram complete individual was acquired by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and offered as a classified specimen.
