Provenance

The Meteoritical Bulletin records that the finder of NWA 17920 is anonymous, and that the main mass is with Brian McDonald. The working name recorded in the Bulletin is BMD 021.

This specimen is that main mass. The Bulletin records the meteorite as having been recovered as a single piece of 433.1 g; what remains after the type specimen and the cut material were removed is this 279.83 g end cut. The Bulletin identifies the holder of the main mass but does not describe the form of the piece, so the identification of this end cut as that mass is recorded here on the authority of Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and not on that of the Bulletin. One of the photographs below shows the specimen alongside its BMD 021 working name label.

On verification. The serial number on the accompanying certificate card is an index to this record. The photographs above and the stated weight are what identify this specimen. Meteorite surfaces, fracture patterns and cut faces are individual to each stone, so a specimen can be compared directly against these images and weighed against the figure recorded here to two decimal places.
