Provenance

The Meteoritical Bulletin records that NWA 17916 was found in 2025 in Tindouf, Algeria, that the finder is anonymous, that the place of purchase was Morocco, and that the meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer. The working name recorded in the Bulletin is BMD 016. That field number is painted on the exterior of this specimen.

The Bulletin records the main mass as being with Brian McDonald but does not identify which piece that is. This end cut is the largest piece of NWA 17916 held by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., and its identification as the main mass is made by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. on that basis, not by the Bulletin. The slices of NWA 17916 offered by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. were cut from this stone.

On verification. The serial number on the accompanying certificate card is an index to this record. The photographs above and the stated weight are what identify this specimen. Meteorite surfaces, clast patterns and cut faces are individual to each stone, so a specimen can be compared directly against these images and weighed against the figure recorded here to two decimal places.
